Who would have thought that getting into the laundry game would yield such interesting results? Now, eight years later, I find myself staying in an amazing temporary furnished housing in Washington D.C. through Attache Property Management, LLC while I open up yet another new location in Washington DC!
I guess on the one hand it does make some sense that I’ve found some success at this point. The first few years took a lot of trial and error to figure out a business model that worked for me and encouraged growth opportunities.
My very first laundromat was family run and took a lot of time to operate from the whole family unit. I couldn’t have been more proud of everyone who was putting in so much time to make the business a success.
I credit the business doing well to everyone who put in a long shift either late into the night, and definitely over the weekends. Were it not for this kind of teamwork and dedication, I’m sure the first location wouldn’t have last more than two years.
But instead, we opened up our second location after two years and brought in some great outside help to manage and run it on our behalf. We took a lot of time to find the right people, but that investment really paid off.
Eventually, opening up more and more locations, we realized that we would have to expand to neighboring areas such as Washington DC. That meant a whole new world of planning and logistics that we were excited to tackle!
The first location took a bit longer to prepare and set up that I had anticipated, so I found myself living in a nearby hotel for a bit longer that I was comfortable with. It doesn’t take very long to feel like you’ve outgrown a hotel room, so by the end of my stay, I was more than ready to leave.
